Food for thought….Love Came Down

I listened to the song “Love came down” today, as I listened to it a scripture came to my remembrance “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.” 2 Corinthians 8:9

Now think about that scripture for a moment.  He became poor for our sakes so that we might inherit His kingdom.  Before you continue reading, ask God to show you the love behind that scripture.  Right now these are just words on a screen, but when you can grasp the ultimate agape love that is behind that scripture, it will change your entire being.

This summer, we often went to my in-laws house on the lake and let the kids swim at the public beach.  Its a small little beach, there is a break wall on both sides of it that has a pretty big drop off into the water.  My kids always wear life jackets, especially the youngest ones.  My son Benjamin was two, and we were getting ready to leave so we took his off.  He was holding my husband’s hand and they were looking into the water.   My oldest son, Jude, came running by with a huge inner tube around his waist. As he ran by, he accidentally bumped my son Benjamin who then went head first into the water, he was helplessly sinking.  I immediately jumped into the water, shoes on, phone in pocket, full force, and grabbed him.  Obviously I did that because I adore my son, and he was sinking, he was in danger he needed me to save him.

The same is true with our Savior, but His sacrifice was the ultimate act of love.  He saw that we were drowning in our sins, helpless, and hopeless, so without question He sent His only son to save us, to pull us out and to make us heirs to the greatest kingdom ever created.  He, in His great love and abundant mercy, came down and rescued us.  What greater love is there than that which He has rendered to us? Read the lyrics to the song below and ask God to give you a glimpse of the love that took place upon the cross of Calvary.  We were set free, purchased at a high price, and now we are forever His, we will forever be with Him.  Could there be a love greater than that? Never.

Listen to the song here

If my heart is overwhelmed
And I cannot hear Your voice
I hold on to what is true
Though I cannot see

If the storms of life they come
And the road ahead gets steep
I will lift these hands in faith
I will believe

I’ll remind myself
Of all that You’ve done
And the life I have
Because of Your son

Love came down and rescued me
Love came down and set me free
I am Yours
Lord I’m forever Yours
Mountains high or valley low
I sing out and remind my soul
I am Yours
I am forever Yours
