Food for thought…..With all of your heart

strawYesterday was hectic, to say the least! My husband has been super busy at work for the past 2 days, and we have really been trying to get our garden put in.  So I was DETERMINED to put this mammoth garden in yesterday.  I spent the morning driving around looking for pepper plants, I went to 4 different greenhouses before I found any, that was already frustrating.

My washing machine has a delay start button, I put laundry on so that when I got home it would be ready to dry.  I went to dry my laundry only to find that the washer was beeping. “ND” was blinking on the screen.  What in the world that means, I still don’t know.  All I know is that my washing machine is full of wet clothes! At that moment, I remember saying out loud “Lord, why?”

So down to start the gardening, it was super windy and my containers were flying all over the yard.  After 2 hours of putting the plants in, I got to the seeds.  As I started planting them, this big wind whips through and my 35 seed packs scattered through the yard.  Ok, I had enough.  I needed to get out of that garden! So I left things where they were at and decided to take the kiddos for icecream.  I wasn’t expecting my husband home until late so I thought I would do something fun with them.  I went inside to wash my hands and feet, which were completely black, only to find that our electric was off. I called our electric company, their estimated time to have it back on….11:30 PM. Again I said “Lord……WHY?”

The kids pile into the car, filthy from being in the garden with me.  Oh wait, I forgot to mention that they played in the sprinkler  and Jacob asked if he could wash my car with the hose after they were done with the sprinkler.  I told him yes, I didn’t realize that I needed to first tell him to roll up the car windows. So I had dirty hands, dirty feet, a dirty face, and a wet rear. Again “Lord, WHHHYYYYY?

The ice cream place that we had a gift card to is right next to Tops grocery store,  so I asked the boys if they could behave while we went in.  Sure. We get into the store when I realize my oldest son has no shoes on! I’m not sure why I would try shopping with 4 kids after such an already crazy day.  So my 3 year old who is in the cart offers his flip flops to my oldest son.  (why in the world he thought he could go into the store with no shoes is beyond me.) I thought, I’m only grabbing a few things, I might as well just grab them quick and go.  I get to the front, the line was ridiculous.  I waited in it with kids that were pushing and fighting for about 5 minutes and decided to go to the service desk to cash out.  So after I get out of the line I was in, I get to the service desk and they cashier says “sorry, I just closed out my drawer” Again, Lord…why? why? why?” So back into the long line.  This was honestly one of the absolute worst shopping trips I have had in a long time. Everyone was crying and fighting, my youngest son pinched his finger in the cart and when I looked at his face, his mouth was open but no sound coming out…..yet. I knew in about 3 seconds, everyone in the store was going to be staring at me because he was going to let out an ear piercing scream.  I was right! I lost count of how many times the man behind me said “wow” meanwhile,  I was still saying “Lord……why?”  I am stubborn as can be.  I should have just left the store, I did contemplate it, but when I got to that point I realized I had already been through the store, I had my groceries, the kids had already been bad, could it get any worse? Have you ever heard the saying “it can only go up from here”.  That’s how I felt, it couldn’t get much worse, it could only get better at that point.

So to finish off my long day, I was putting away my groceries and when I opened the cupboard, my bag of rice (that was open) fell onto the floor, face down.  I yelled “Lord….WHY? I don’t get it! Really, couldn’t you have stopped that bag of rice from spilling all over?”

As I got the kids in bed, I just longed to get in His Word. I opened my bible and I read the scripture “The Lord is near to all who call on Him” Psalm 145:18

You see, here is the thing….God is trying to get my attention.  God is trying to remind me that He is still waiting.  Waiting for my time, waiting for my prayers, waiting for my heart.  So often we can read our bibles, we can throw up our prayers to God in the mornings, then what? We go about our day.  We put Him on the back burner, we put Him in the passengers seat, we put Him second in our lives.  We do what we want, we make our plans, and we don’t involve Him.  We are riding without the pilot, without the driver, without the one who knows our lives from beginning to end. Then we find ourselves, like me, asking “Lord, why?”

I can’t do it without Him.  I don’t want to do it without Him…anymore! Each and every day, I want to put Him first because He is worthy to be first in my life.  The great promise to those who seek the Lord is that He will be found.  “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13.

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you”  Are you feeling far from Him today? Then ask yourself if you are seeking Him, are you drawing near to Him? He is worthy to be sought, and He is worthy to be first in our lives! Are you seeking Him with ALL YOUR HEART?

I love your stories. They remind me that I am not alone in my feelings of wanting to be nearer to the Lord and sometimes it takes a hectic day to remind us that He wants to be involved in every aspect of our lives.
