“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear”
I Peter 3:15
As I was staring down the sink full of dishes and counter full of mess left from dinner, an awful thought ran through my head. “What if someone stopped by right now to visit?” Yikes, would I be ready to have them? Did I have clean dishes or even enough food to serve? Would I be comfortable enough to even invite them inside?
Then, I was reminded of the verse above. Could I serve someone leftover food on dirty dishes? No, of course not! Would I make them feel welcome when I was not prepared, and they sensed my anxiousness? No.
The same goes with the gospel. When our hearts are not clean before the Lord, people can see it throughout our actions. When we are not filled with the Holy Spirit and fed daily with the Word, we are not prepared. Can the Lord give you the words to speak? Of course. But it is far better to follow I Peter 3:15 and be prepared to give an answer for the hope we have. When we are filled, people sense the love of Jesus in us….not the emptiness and chaos that envelopes us when we put Him aside.
When we are focussed on the eternal, and not the things here on earth, we have the hope that people are yearning for. Be ready today, ladies, to give an answer for the hope!
