Food for thought…Beauty is passing

beauty is passing

“Favour is deceitful, and beauty is passing, but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.” Proverbs 31:30

I have four boys, so I’ll never have to buy lipgloss, or mascara for them, but they sure have tried mine out a few times.  My oldest son painted a smiley face on his brother’s belly with my mascara a few weeks ago.  They sometimes like to see me get ready. They’ll peek in the bathroom and say mom “what’s that stuff you’re putting on your cheeks?”, or “mom why are you making your eyes black?”  I always tell them because I want to look nice.  Don’t we all want to look nice?  Sometimes I see people when I have no makeup on and they respond with “wow you look so tired”.  Listen I have 4 little boys sleeping in my bed, what kind of sleep do you think I get? I need that concealer to cover up my dark circles! My wrinkles are getting deeper, and each day I notice a couple more gray hairs.  Although, I like to think that I have wrinkles because I laugh so much. 🙂  Our outward appearance is getting older day by day, but our inward is what remains.

Anyway, we put in an effort to look nice, but are we working on the inward beauty? Are we working on the beauty that transcends time? Are we working on the beauty that doesn’t fade away? That beauty is found in the person of the heart?  Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. 1 Peter 3:3-4 We daily have to comb our hair, put on our makeup, and get dressed right? It doesn’t just come on its own, we work hard to try to look beautiful don’t we? But are we working on the inward beauty? It comes from spending time in God’s Word, by prayer, by fellowship, by seeking God. We REPRESENT Him.  So we want to call attention to HIS CHARACTER and not His people.  When people look at you, they should clearly see that your inward beauty far surpasses your outward appearance.  They will see that by your love, your compassion, your grace, your patience, your joy.  Fruits of the Spirit is what people should notice in our lives ladies, not our jewelry, not our bodies, not our outward appearance.

They aren’t going to notice godly characteristics if you aren’t working toward those things, if you aren’t putting time into those things.  You work hard to look nice outwardly, let’s work hard to look nice inwardly.  That is what is precious in the sight of God and that is the beauty that will NEVER FADE.
