Food for thought….He’s on the sidelines

beauty for ashes

“To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” Isaiah 61:3

Each one of us carries a cross, a burden that we bear.  When you read this, each one of you know what I’m talking about.  Your cross is different than mine.  For some of you it may be heartbreak, hurt, pain, bitterness, addiction, financial struggles, condemnation, disbelief, loneliness, the list could go on forever.  Each one of us has a cross that we bear.  Something that we carry and hold on to that Jesus wants to bear for us.

You see, God never presses himself on us, He never forces us to submit to Him, He doesn’t force us to love Him.  He sits on the sidelines, He waits until we have come to the end of ourselves and until we have realized that we cannot carry these burdens.  He gladly bears them for us.

For so long I carried a burden and I constantly tried to “fix” it myself.  I spent many sleepless nights, many tears and turmoil over this cross that I bore. Until one day I felt Jesus calling me to come rest.  In Him is where we will find rest, peace and victory.  BUT…we must be willing to hand over those burdens to Jesus.  We must be willing to say Ok Lord, here is my life and the mess that it is.  Here I am, a fallen sinner.  Take my life, take my baggage, take my burdens.  He promises to do that.  Then in His great grace, and perfect love, He takes our mess and turns it into something beautiful.  He takes our burdens and turns them into peace and hope.

When we don’t give them to Jesus, where do we find ourselves? We find ourselves in despair, anger, bitterness, sadness, discontentment, anxiety.  It is there that satan wants Christians to be.  It is easy to slip into that place because we bear our burdens for far too long.

What is your cross? What are you carrying today? Give it over to Jesus, He is waiting at the sidelines to bring you victory today! He is waiting to turn your mess into something beautiful.
