Food for thought…His protection

Placing your hand in His

Last week, we took the kiddos to a waterfall.  When we arrived there, the current was really fast, but we decided to go anyways.  Surprisingly, no one got hurt except for me.  As we were nearing the end of our hike, there was a large ditch that we needed to cross.  The ditch was on a hill which was very steep.  So we made sure each of our kids safely crossed.  Justin stood on one side and I stood on the other and we helped each of our kids.  After they all crossed, Justin held out his hand to help me.  I didn’t think that I needed his help so I didn’t grab his hand, then I fell.  I fell onto a huge log that had stubs of wood sticking out of it, my other leg went down onto the rocks, and I fell right into the ditch.  Yes, it hurt really bad. I cant remember the last time I cried from being in pain, but I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes. It hurt!! Really bad!!

As I was reading my Bible that night, I thought about the verse in Isaiah 41:10  “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” God is our strength, our protector, our shield.  He is all sovereign over our lives.  I think about all of the things that God has protected me from in the past and I am so thankful for his grace and love in my life.  At times, we are stubborn sheep.  We stray from our Shepherd.  We like to think that we don’t need His hand to guide us, we think that our plans are perfect, and we stray from His protection.

I am a stubborn sheep.  I always ask God to make me more moldable, to make me more faithful, and to make me love and trust Him more each day.  Sometimes, there are steep cliffs in our lives, tough trials that God wants to bring us through but His hand is always there to guide, comfort, and protect us.  Sometimes the way may be scary but when we place our hand in God’s and allow Him to take us wherever He wants us to go, there are huge blessings on the other side of those cliffs.  We must trust our Savior, submit to His will, and place our hand in His.  He keeps us from falling. “To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy- to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen” Jude 1:24-25
