Food for thought…Humble yourself

 humble yourself

“Therefore, whoever humbles himself as a little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”  Matthew 18:4

Have you ever been in a situation that you want people to know that you are right?  I have.  If I have a great idea, I sure let my husband know what a great idea it is.  Sometimes we want to prove to others what are true hearts are, sometimes we just don’t want to look like a goof, so we strive to let others know when we are right, or when our intentions are right.

Jesus used this scripture as a response to the question of  “who then is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” True greatness in the kingdom of heaven belongs to the believer who takes the lowest position, who takes the humble road regardless of the outcome.

According to the book of Mark, Jesus tells us “if anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all”  As Jesus came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.  A humble Christian is a Christ-like Christian.  Don’t you want to be a Christ-like Christian? I sure do.  We must first humble ourselves, I have seen Christians PRIDEFULLY put themselves last. Ironic isn’t it? To pridefully put oneself last.  But it’s true, I have done it also.  I self righteously think that I am doing the right thing because I am putting myself last.  That is not humility.  Humility is not putting ourselves last, humility is not how we view ourselves.  Humility is how we view others, humility is loving others so much that we lose sight of ourselves.  Humility begins with loving God and being in awe of His great grace. We must realize “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”.  Be in awe of His love today, be in awe of His mercy……it is the beginning of humility.
