Food For Thought…I will Rejoice!

“This is the day that the Lord has made: Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

Recently I have been a little irritated with life.  Don’t judge, you know you’ve all been there 🙂  Last week my husband was gone for a conference, when he returned it led right into a busy weekend of fixing my car that broke down, visiting sick relatives, catching up on school.  Needless to say, I was getting impatient with everything.  The littlest things were bothering me.

Finally, I snapped at my husband and told him all the things that were bothering me.  Although, now looking back at them, not one of them is a big deal, but at the time they sure seemed to be.  I was in a emotional moment of thinking that my life is super hard, and I have too much to do, and too much hanging over my head. All at once, I spouted off everything that was bothering me.  My husband was quiet, speechless actually. 🙂

So then we got back at home, and my son started pouring an entire gallon of water onto my rug.  At least it was only water, but on top of my irritated mood, it was more than I could handle.  I started making dinner, my kids were pulling on my legs the whole time asking how much longer until dinner was done.  Then I looked out and saw my dog chewing up my new shoes (again). Finally, I told all of my kids to get out of my kitchen for 5 minutes, I needed a breather! I opened up the container of eggs, and on the inside of the egg carton, I read the scripture “This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Ohhh, how badly I needed that!  I read that scripture aloud, and all at once, peace seemed to come flooding in.  God reminds us in the littlest ways that He has prepared this day, He gave us the breath in our lungs in order to fulfill His purposes through us this day.  I must choose to rejoice in that.  Rejoice means: To show happiness, gladness, joy, delight.  I must CHOOSE joy, and gladness.  When I dont, the result is exactly how I was acting….impatient, irritated, annoyed, overwhelmed.

I will rejoice because God made this day, He called me into this day, He ordained that I would walk through this day and follow Him, He knows what was in store for me this day, and He is going to walk with me, lead me, and love me through this day.  Rejoicing in it is the choice that I must make.
