Food for thought…Keeping watch

keeping watch

“The eyes of the Lord are in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the good” Proverbs 15:3

When I was Christmas shopping a few days ago, there was Christmas music playing in the store.  A song came on about Santa, I’m sure you’ve heard it, but the words were “He sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake, he knows if you’ve been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake.” I laughed because I actually used to believe that when I was a kid.  But, there is One who sees all that we do, all that we say, and all that occurs in our lives.

I am an avid reader of current events.  I like to stay updated on what’s happening around the globe.  The more I read the news, the more I recognize that our redemption is drawing near.  It causes me to look to Jesus for answers, hope, and peace.  There are times in my life that I have cried out to the Lord saying “Lord, where are you?!?” Times that I have read such troubling things in the news that I ponder why God doesn’t zap people with lightning bolts each and every day.

It causes us to ask God why are you allowing this, why haven’t you interceded and stopped these things?   I think of Job, he asked God why.  I think of the millions of Jews that were tortured during the holocaust, I bet they asked why.  I think about those who died on September 11, 2001…I bet their families asked why.  I think about the little children that were murdered at Sandy Hook school, I bet their parents asked why.  I bet those who are starving in Africa often ask why.  I bet the families of those killed by ISIS ask why.  I could go on and on…forever.

I must remind myself each day, that I don’t see with God’s eyes.  He sees each and every situation in each and every person’s life. He sees every tear that is cried, every heart that is aching, every family that is in despair.  I have hope that He works all things to the good in our lives, I have trust that He is sovereign, and I have peace because the Word tells us that He is victorious.  “If God be for us, who can be against us” Through Him we have victory.

All of these situations happen, and I don’t know why.  We don’t see things as God does.  He sees our lives from beginning to end, and He knows what is best for you and I.  We see dimly, He sees clearly.  So instead of asking God why, I am learning to trust and obey His plans, and to let Him lead me wherever He wants me to go.  Soon this life will be over, place your hand in His and trust that His plan is perfect for you.  He sees all that we go through, and He will never forsake us.
