Food for thought…Lay down those burdens

burdens

Tonight I just wanted to sit and crochet. So I went over to my CDs and looked for something to listen to because I like to get a couple things done at once, like a book or study on cd/DVD. As I peruse the selections I see a “Pilgrim’s Progress” that I had yet to listen to. It gives the disclaimer of ‘updated language’, to the which, I roll my eyes because I love the original text of Bunyan. So there I sit with my faithful electric blanket as the old familiar story unfolds. I hear of Christian and his burden, his family’s scorn of his journey to the celestial city and his struggle in the slough of despond. But all the while there is inside Christian the realization of his burden and the liberty that he seeks from that burden. What a word picture. If we could physically see the burdens that we carry what a realization we might have as well. It made me consider what things I have carried, still carry and then I ponder over why I do so. There is a freedom in Christ.  Galatians 5:1 “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”

Right now I pray over you dear saints: Lord, we know that devil is a liar!!! I ask that you drown out his voice from the tormented minds that they may hear your truth. Show us our burden and sins so that we may acknowledge them. We spend so much time with these burdens we were never meant to carry.  We get comfortable with them and feel as though we will never defeat them. But I know that IN YOU WE LIVE AND MOVE AND HAVE OUR BEING. You seek. You save. You draw to your side. I ask, draw Lord. Pull us near to you and calm our restless hearts. What do we know? What do we really know of you? What have we mastered? At times I feel like the disciples, though I have walked
with you I can, at times, completely miss it and not even realize it! We don’t want to miss you. Show us your truth. Reign in your glory. Deliver now your children!

My friend Courtney wrote this, it reminded me of THIS SONG 🙂
