Food for thought…laying aside every weight and sin

A friend got me a package of “fun size” almond joy. They are convenient…too convenient actually. I have them in a basket on my counter right near the door. You can pick one up as you walk out the door or come in or while you are making a cup of tea in the keurig for that matter. Sigh…they are there and I wish the story ended there. It doesn’t. No, no it doesn’t. I eat them. There I said it. I hope you can recover from your shock,…but I really like them. So much so that as I eat one now (as I write this mind you) I am thinking how when people join the biggest loser and the trainers go into their houses and “purge” their cupboard of all the things that need to go so they can live and eat healthy. I don’t remember candy bars getting saved in the purge session. Nope. They went into the basket. Why? It’s got coconut. That’s safe and almonds have been said to have a power over headaches as does chocolate with it’s caffeine.  So this isn’t junk good food it’s over the counter medicine.
There I bet we all feel better and justified now, huh? The truth is we can try to justify what we will but it comes down to a question: is this edifying and drawing me closer to Jesus? If the answer is yes then rejoice but if the answer is no then we need to purge that from our lives. Put it down and walk away. It’s easier said than done.
But we have a choice. We can enjoy this sin while we live here and now and miss heaven or we can lay it down and enjoy the splendor of heaven for eternity. It’s entirely up to you. Hebrews 12:1 “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.”
