Food for thought….Looking forward!

looking forward 1“Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.  Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot, and blameless.” 2 Peter 3:14-15

I used to love to play basketball.  We had a fantastic basketball team and we had a winning record each year.  I spent every spare second I had on the basketball court.  My parents poured me a concrete court at their house because I loved it so much.  We would have practice every day after school for 2 hours, then I would come home and shoot hoops till dark.  I breathed basketball when I was a teenager.

We would always scout out other teams to see how well they played before we played them.  If they were a good team, we would practice extra, we would do extra weight lifting, extra running, extra work to prepare for what we had coming in the future.  We anticipated it so therefore we worked hard.

Here is my challenge to you dear sister, and God has challenged me with this too…..We KNOW what is coming.  Read the scripture above. A new heavens and a new earth, in the presence of our Savior, and those beautiful saints who have passed into eternity before us.  I am looking forward to a sweet reunion with my Redeemer and all those that I love.  I cant wait to meet the Saints of the Bible who laid down their lives for the sake of the gospel.  I want to be, like the scripture says, without spot, and blameless when Jesus returns for me.  Do you truly believe with all our your soul that Jesus will one day call us into the clouds and we will forever be with Him?  If we believe that, then our lives should reflect that.  We should be preparing for that, we should be anticipating it, we should be working hard for that day.  Ask yourself this…. what are you working hard toward, what are you spending your time on, what are you anticipating, what are you diligently waiting for? As Christians, our answer should be….the day that we meet our King.  That is what we should be working toward.  That is what we should be thinking about when we go to bed and when we wake, that is what our lives should reflect. I pray you would be consumed by Him today and eagerly waiting for His return for us.
