Food for thought….Our appetite

our appetite

synonyms: craving, longing, yearning, hankering, hunger, thirst, passion; More

There are appetites in our lives that we must control or they will control us. Some people have a weakness for food and cannot deny themselves anything. The result is a body which is disproportionate and unhealthy. The flesh is in control of that individual and they are at the mercy of their desires. Paul gave us a good example of the struggle that is personal to each and every one of us.
He said in 1 Corinthians 9:23-27 “And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you . Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” There is a war within each and every one of us for dominion of ones appetites. We can pretend they are not there but that doesn’t make them go away or make us pure.

Lord, these struggles are real and only when we are submitted and surrendered to you can we defeat the flesh. You are with us in the midst of these struggles and long to free us. I ask, Lord, for those that are struggling that you give great measures of grace that they would truly desire you and not the longings of their flesh. You have not saved us so that we may struggle along in this life. No, you give us VICTORY!!!!!
