Food for thought…..Our Hiding Place

calm

Babies. Precious “little people”. Bundles of joy. Bambinos. Whatever the name, it matters not, they are altogether adorable. There is this sweeping love that comes over you when you hold a new born baby. It’s powerful and truly hard to describe. I love to watch the faces of the new parents as they hold their little love or maybe change the diaper. Every move they make is filled with such care. You see love and concern displayed in every movement. They long to be everything for that little baby and the baby,…well they want to be as close as they possibly can be. For nine months, give or take a few days, this child has heard mamas heartbeat and felt her warmth. Being outside her is strange and new. There is a soothing that comes over the baby when placed on mama’s chest. That steady heartbeat is near again and the baby feels at home and safe again.

We may be quite grown up and not able to be strapped to mama’s back anymore but the longing to rest where we are safe still remains no matter what your age is. I think that is why The Lord reminds us to stay close by Him. Abide in the shadow of the Almighty and there you will find the safety you crave. Jobs will end. Relationships will falter . Bodies will grow weak and need extra care yet one thing remains: a hiding place. Lord, you are my hiding place. When you were young and played hide and go seek did you ever have a place that was so good that your friends never found you? I had a couple. They would say, “awe ,…come on, where were you hiding?” I would not tell. It was special. It was secret. It was mine. I hope you have found such a place that you can go to. Not only when circumstances make it hard to stand but also when all is well.

Matthew 6:6 “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” Humor and few lines of verse if you will: There is a place where you and I can go. A secret place of rest in times of joy and woe.  It matters not the time nor day.  Nor even if there we lingering stay.  Sweet peace is there and all without measure.  To each child to give is indeed His good pleasure.  So why carry about your woe and your grief?  For when given to Jesus you will find true relief.  God bless dear friends.

  1. I love this. We overlook the simplest things sometimes. Just like a newborn baby feels safest in their mother’s arms, we will feel safest as close to our Lord as possible. Thank you!
