Food for thought…Social media, do you have followers?

There isn’t a shortage of social media in our day. I have people asking me “are you on,…” “Do you use,…” And many times I look at them, with a blank look on my face, I’m pretty certain. Lol . I am on some sites but there are quite a few I’ve never tried. Even with the ones I have and use quite frequently I know there is a pull. We have to be ever so careful not to get too tangled up in our media content. We can create idols out of the number of followers we have or the number of likes we get. I can’t remember who said it but I thought it well worth considering: “it doesn’t matter how many followers you have. Hitler had thousands and Jesus had 12.” Wouldn’t it be better to have fewer people who truly care than hundreds who are only interested in getting followed back so they look important. Quality over quantity should be our goal.

Better to have Someone who will be honest with you than someone who will just agree with everything you say while they are with you because they can’t have an original thought of their own. We’ve become idea stealers. Posting and re-posting things that other people said that are brilliant. I miss relevant thought. I don’t know about you but I would rather have a great conversation with people that is honest over regurgitated information that they are hoping will make them sound smart.

Sometimes the best way to “connect with people” is to “disconnect from social media”. We fast everything that isn’t important and that won’t bother us. Lord, give us a burden. Teach us to lay down our own interests for for what you have planned. We “talk” online for hours but statistics show that people feel less connected with people than in past decades. There’s a facade that goes up when we are online. I pray for those who feel as though they are alone and drowning in life while those around them are swimming fine. Take away from us what isn’t healthy and satisfying. Fill us with more of you. Ephesians 3:19 “And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God”
