Food for thought…this world is passing

This summer my kids wore crocs everywhere we went.  They are easy to slip on, they can get wet, they are all around my favorite shoes for kids.  BUT….there is a downside to them.  When my kids get hot and wear their crocs, their feet sweat in them because they are made of rubber, and they STINK! Not only that but the sweat in their crocs causes the dirt to come in the holes and stick to their feet.  At the end of the night their feet and shoes were a big smelly, dirty mess!  Every night they waited for me to scrub those little feet.  One night my son said to me “Mom, isn’t it wierd that all the parts of our body that touch the world are the parts that get really dirty.  Like our feet, they touch the world and they get really dirty.  Same with our hands, they touch things in the world so they get really dirty”

He didn’t know the spiritual meaning behind what he said, but I sure did.  It reminded me of this scripture Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world — the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life — is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” 1 John 2:15-17

It is a hard thing to be different from the world.  God calls us to be separate, pilgrims that are just passing through.  Yet we still have attachments, hopes, dependencies upon this world.  There are Christians that I know who constantly sit on the fence, they desire the blessings of God, they want to feel His love, hope, and peace BUT they love the world and are not willing to surrender. You have the ability and responsibility to choose your position.  God has put eternity in our hearts, we have a hope that goes beyond what this world could ever offer us.  Yet we still set our hopes and our happiness on people, circumstances, and material things.  When will we learn that there is no fulfillment in those things? How many times must we be let down before we come to realize that our hope is in HIM alone?

Be separate dear sisters, I pray that we would keep our eyes straight ahead upon our King and our prize.  This world has nothing to offer us but heartache and disappointment.  We have a hope greater than anything we will ever find in this world, set your hope on Him.
