Food For Thought…Waiting on God

waiting on god

I don’t know about you, but I am Italian.  Italians are not patient. (most of the time) If you are an Italian reading this, don’t be offended because you know it’s true.  I have never been patient.  It has been one of my major faults since the time I was little.  When I was a little girl, I used to put money in a candy machine, and I would start punching the machine because the metal ring wasnt spinning fast enough to get me my candy in a timely manner.  So, I would punch the machine.  For real. I honestly couldnt wait the 5-10 seconds for that ring to spin around and give my my candy!!?? That is how impatient I was.  I have come a long way since my candy machine punching days, but even now I wouldnt consider myself patient, to say the least.

Sometimes it is hard to understand why God doesn’t allow things to happen in our lives right away.  Daily, I am learning that God works things out in His own PERFECT timing.  God knows you.  He formed you.  He knows all that you need before you even ask.  He sees your life from beginning to end.  He sees the forks in the road, the bumps in the road, and the dead ends.

Often times, we try to speed up God’s plans. He gives us precious promises, and we think that He needs our help for them to come to fruition.  So what do we do? We put God in the passenger seat, and we take the wheel (scary).  We try to accomplish HIS will in OUR timing instead of His.  There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death. Proverbs 16:25

Recently, I just was counseling with a young woman, and she said “when is God going to fix this because I cant wait any longer.”  After listening for a long time, I finally explained that it seems as though she hasnt given God the chance to fix it because she is too busy trying to fix it herself.  Sometimes we are blind to the fact that we are standing in the way of something that God is trying to work out in our lives.

The heart of this issue is trusting God.  Trusting that He will accomplish what He has promised.  His promises are sure and amen. For everything in your life, there is a season.  A time for every purpose in your life.  And the Creator of the universe, the One who has given you life, who holds the world in His hand…He knows when those times and season will be.   He may not fulfill His plans in your life this week, or this month, or this year, but do you trust Him enough to believe that He will fulfill them when it’s perfect for your life?

 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Ladies, we must rest in Him today, do not get ahead of God, do not rush His plans.  Trust that His ways are perfect, and that His promises are sure.  As we wait upon our Savior, He will give us peace and rest in our time of waiting.  “As for God, His way is perfect.” Psalm 18:30
