Food for thought…WARNING SIGNS!

warning signs

” Now learn this parable from the fig tree: when it’s branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.  So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near, at the doors!!” Matthew 24:33

I woke up yesterday morning to my son screaming as he looked out the window…snow! He was thrilled, we had snow! As soon as I hopped out of bed, I headed straight for the wood pile to bring in an armload of wood to throw on the fire to warm up the house.  As I was walking to the pile, I said to the Lord. “Well Lord, I’m not ready for winter but its here, huh?” In that moment, I stopped as I looked up at the snow falling gracefully onto my pile of wood, why am I not ready? After all, its the middle of November, how could I not be ready?

Not long ago, the leaves started dropping onto my lawn.  The kids raked big piles and loved jumping into them for hours.  Isn’t that a sign that winter is on its way? During the summer, my husband sleeps with the window open at night and we always talk about how loud the crickets are, a few weeks ago I could no longer hear the sound of crickets outside at night, instead I asked him to close the window because I was freezing. (Well let’s be real…Actually it was more like me elbowing him in the back while he was sleeping, and telling him that I was freezing!)  Isnt that a sign that winter is on its way? Last week, I asked my husband to start my car and warm it up before the kids and I got in.  Isnt that a sign that winder is on its way? Its November Marissa! Wake up, winter is on its way! Get ready, and BE READY!

You see once winter is here, I can no longer do the things that I have been purposing to do.  I can no longer take my kids fishing, I can no longer go out and play basketball with them, I can no longer till my garden under, I can no longer do the things that I have been wanting to do because its just too late.

This same concept needs to be recognized in our walks as Christians.  “So when you see all these things, know that it is near, at the doors!” What things?

-wars and rumors of wars (lets look at Iraq, Syria, Russia, Ukraine, North Korea, this list could go on and on)
-famines (UN childrens fund has estimated that 40,000 children die EACH DAY from malnutrition and disease)
-pestilences (Ebola, AIDS, malaria)
-earthquakes (so far in 2014 there have been over 14,000 earthquakes)
-betrayal (read the news, look at our government, I don’t need to explain)
-false prophets (there are so many I don’t know where to start)
-the love of many will grow cold (the foster care system is exploding due to parents not taking care of their own children)

These ladies are the signs, the signs that our redemption is drawing near.  The signs that our Savior is on His way.  Each and every one of these prophecies have come to fruition, yet we are not ready.  Our hearts, our lives, our walks, we are just not ready.  Maybe there are things in your life that you have been purposing to do, strongholds that you are hoping to let go, planning to completely surrender your life.  Once that day comes, and we stand before our Savior and give an account to Him for our lives, we are too late! We can not longer do those things, we can no longer change those things that we were purposing to change. Now is the time ladies, get your lives ready for His return.  “For the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready” Revelation 19:7.  I don’t want to be a foolish woman whose lamp has gone out and I am unprepared for the sweet and beautiful day when I will have the privilege of meeting my Savior face to face.  For I know that “it is near, at the doors”.  Are you ready?
