Food for thought…Who are you?

A company gave me a form to fill out because they offered me an opportunity to review some of their products, when I filled out the form (which was unexpectedly REALLY long) It said tell us 3 important things in your life that represent who you are.  I typed I am a mom of 4 boys, I have a money saving website, and I like finding a good deal.  After I typed that I thought “Really? That’s who I am?” I stopped in a moment of humility.  I just stared at my fingers on the keyboard for a few minutes.  I don’t regret putting my boys because I love those little guys with every inch of me.  But I thought what are the most important things in my life that show who I am.  I was humbled and disappointed in myself that I didn’t write I am a follower of Jesus, or I am redeemed by the blood of Jesus, or really ANYTHING that pertained to Him.

Things like that really cause me to think and assess myself, then I am so thrown off that I have to stop what I am doing.  I didn’t even finish the application because I was deterred at my answers.

This morning I was listening to a pastor on the radio and he said (I am paraphrasing) he challenged his church to write down on a piece of paper what they were doing every half hour throughout the day (or as much as they could) and they did it all week long.  He said you would be ashamed if you saw the amount of time we spend on ourselves vs. the amount of time we spend on God.

So having what he said in the back of my mind and what I typed on my application, I began thinking about the things that I do that hold eternal value, the things I do for the Lord, and the things that I do that represent Him.

I want my life to represent Him, I want Him to not only be on the top 3 important things list, but I want Him to be #1 on my list.  Ask yourself the question….. better yet….ask your kids, or your spouse, or your close friend if they can name the top 3 important things in your life.  Is Jesus on your list? If he’s not, then look at what is on your list and determine what needs to come off.

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength”

I want to love Him like that, and I want to be captivated by Him in everyway.   I want Him to be the most important thing that represents who I am, because without Him, I am nothing.

I had a something I wanted to share with you. The Lord has been encouraging me to look for Him in other people. Some times
I spot Him and sometimes I am so caught up in my own thoughts or problems that I miss Him. This past week I went to see
my mom. I noticed some people at her house and they were doing some yard work for her. It was a warm day and they looked
hot, and sweaty and they had dirt on their faces and on their clothes. I know that these people have their own yard work that they do, as well as children and grandchildren that they take care of, husbands that they cook and clean for, make lunches, A LOT of laundry, and probably not much free time. I saw Jesus in them.
I think He shows up in His people as often as we are surrendered to Him, laying down our plans for His.
