He knows your name…do you know His?

knows me

Here is another devotional written by my friend Gail, this spoke to me because I ALWAYS think about the chance that we have been given.  The privilege that we have to represent our Savior here to our family, our children, and to a lost and dying world.  One chance, one life, one time.  That’s what we have.  When I meet people, I can only hope that they walk away desiring to have a relationship with Jesus because they see His love and grace in my life.  You see, people may never read the Bible, but they will read your life like an open book.  They will watch what a Christian does and says.  I want them to see His Spirit through my words, my actions, my patience, my hope, my faith, my love.  When you read this devotional, if you had one name that God would call you, what would it be? Also think, if you had one name that others would call you, what would it be? Like Gail says, I can only hope that mine would be Hope, love, patience, grace.  Remember, we have one chance.  I don’t want to stand before God someday and regret that I didn’t represent Him like I should have.  Do you know His names, do you recognize His voice, do you know Him? Because He knows you.  I think of a quote that I read on my children’s wall at preschool it said “Jesus loves me this I know.  Jesus knows me, this I love.”  I want to know Him.

What is your name?

This past, April I had the opportunity to go to Zimbabwe on a mission trip. Our team had so much fun together. I worked in pharmacy and on day 2 we all gave each other nicknames that stuck. In fact, I can’t remember Bingo’s real name. One of my nicknames was Pred because I dispensed the Prednisone. I had to count all those tiny white pills. My other nickname was Mixy 2 because I helped mix the powdered meds with the sterile water.

Another interesting thing about Zimbabwe is the names they give their children. The first child I met was a sweet two year old boy who came to our clinic with his grandmother. His mom had died so grandma cared for him. This little boy’s name was Blessing. I met a young man who was named Obedience. That’s a name that is hard to live up to. What three year old child could be called Obedience? Another child’s name was Patience. I admit I could never be called Patience. Probably the most interesting name was that of a teenage girl named Attitude. I must admit that I laugh inwardly when I heard her name.

That makes me think though. I wonder what name God would give me. I can say on some days I could definitely be named Attitude, Stubborn or Impatient, but I hope that He also calls me Charity, Hope or Faith. I want Him to know me and I want to know Him.

God has many names too because He has so many attributes. Here are a few names of His names:

Abba- Father

Adonai- LORD, Master

Alpha & Omega- The Beginning and the End,

Messiah-The Anointed One

El Olam-The Everlasting God

Yahweh Raah-The LORD my Shepherd,

Elohim-The Creator

Yahweh-The Self-Existent One

Jehovah Jireh- The LORD will Provide

El Shaddai-God Almighty

Yahweh Shalom- The LORD is Peace

Yahweh Rapha- The LORD that Heals

Phillippians 2:8-10 states, “Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

I love music. I learn through music too. One of the songs I love is titled “Names of God,” by Laurell Hubick. Here is the YouTube link: Names of God
