Home Remedies for Poison Ivy

Summer is coming, and along with that comes poison ivy for my house!  I have 3 active kids that LOVE the outdoors, and I always end up with poison ivy!!

From nature walks to touching my kids clothes and shoes, I always end up getting poison ivy every year!

I am armed with a list of home remedies this year, and thought I’d share them with you.

1. Banana Peel & Potato Slices – draw the poison out with  raw potato slices or red beets.  Then rub the insides of a banana peel over it to treat the itching.

2.  Vaseline & Alum – Stir some alum into Vaseline.  Put this on the rash a few times per day until it’s gone.

3. Olive Oil – rub olive oil on the affected area until gone.

4.  Hot Water, Baking Soda, Vinegar – wash the affected area with as hot of water as you can handle.  Add vinegar and baking soda to the water until the itching goes away.  This should give about 8 hours of relief.

5. Lemon Juice – rub the affected area with lemon juice to soothe the itching and rash.

Thank you to all my Amish & Mennonite friends for sharing!!
