Perfect Love Casts Out Fear

Our dear friend, Gail, wrote this devotional after visiting the Sodus Point Lighthouse Museum.  Just wanted to share with you.  Enjoy!

Visiting the Lighthouse Museum

On the weekends, Steve and I love to visit nearby waterfalls and lighthouses. This past Saturday, we visited both, a waterfalls and a lighthouse.   We saw the Wolcott Waterfalls and then drove to the Sodus Point Lighthouse Museum. The Museum houses the fifty foot tall Old Lighthouse. In the museum, you can climb to the top of the lighthouse using the spiral staircase.   Did I mention that I have a fear of heights? As we wound up and around the stairs, I became more and more fearful. I actually broke out in a sweat. Steve went ahead of me and kept telling me not to look back just look forward. The last four steps were the WORST. At one point, Steve grabbed my hand to help me. I did not think I could get to the top, but I took a deep breath and persevered. When I got to the top even though it was very hot, the view was BEAUTIFUL! It was so worth it!

Isaiah 41:10 states “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

In the lighthouse, Steve was with me, he went before me to strengthen me and help me. He kept me going by offering his hand to get up those last few steps. When I arrived the view was amazing. I would have never made it without his help. Isn’t that true in life? God is ALWAYS there so we never need to be afraid. He gives us strength and helps us to endure our problems. That does not necessarily mean that our problems will disappear, but if we will just lean on Him, we can overcome our fear. Isn’t that amazing and beautiful?

The choice is yours. Will you let fear in your life overtake you? There is an acronym for FEAR, which is Forget Everything And Run or Face Everything And Rise. Too often we chose to forget everything and run when instead we need to face everything and rise.

I John 4:18 states “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear.” Let the perfect love of God drive out your fear. Keep working through your fear with God. When you do, it will be so worth it.
