Faith is trusting God even when the circumstance cant get any worse. A friend of mine lost her baby when he was only a few days old. He had a genetic abnormality and passed in to the arms of our Savior after only a short time here on this earth. Broken, yet strong in faith, I remember seeing her during worship at her son’s funeral, when everyone was sitting, she stood up in the front and raised her hands to praise our Savior. In the midst of this traumatic trial, she praised God. That is faith! That is immovable, unshakeable faith.
Other friends of mine felt God calling them to move to North Dakota to start a ministry there, holding on to the promises that God had given them, they packed up their family and moved away from their friends and families that they have known their entire lives, and moved across the country to a place where they didn’t know anyone! Why? Because they had the faith to believe that God’s plans are perfect. That is faith.
I could go on and on about the people I know who have faith that could move mountains!
Let me give you some examples in the bible of faith.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were determined to worship the one and only God, completely devoted to Him, they wouldn’t fall down and worship the gold image as they were instructed to. King Nebuchadnezzar (It took me a few times to spell that correctly) was furious and threw them into a fiery furnace. How did they respond to the King? They said “Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand O King.” Did you read that correctly? That is my definition of faith, faith is trusting and believing that GOD IS ABLE, and that GOD WILL. These 3 mighty men believed that God was able, so they didn’t cave when they faced death. That is faith.
Think about young David. Goliath came everyday and challenged the army of Israel. Young David comes to meet his brothers, and David tells Saul that he will fight against the giant Goliath. When Saul tells David that he cannot fight Goliath because he is a youth, David responds in faith by saying “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, HE WILL deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.
Then we see David talk to with Goliath, and he says to Goliath, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day, the LORD WILL deliver you into my hand”
Do you see the similarities here? They had the faith to believe and say “MY GOD WILL” That is faith. That is unwavering faith.
Here is what the Bible says about men of faith….
“Who through faith they subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight armies, women received their dead raised to life again.”
Think about those things, unbelievable circumstances, unbelievable outcomes, people were healed, protected, brought back to life…how? The Bible tells us, by faith.
Now apply that to your life. Our God is the same yesterday, today and forever. He is the same God that saved those 3 mighty men from the furnace, the same God that raised a woman’s son from the dead, the same God that led Gideon and David into their mighty victories over their enemies. By faith do you believe God can heal your sick relative, save your unsaved spouse, bring back your prodigal child, provide and meet all your needs? Let me tell you sweet friend, HE CAN…..But do you have the faith to believe it?
“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen” Hebrews 11:1
